October 1, 2012

Hi Parents of room 203!
(FALL BREAK IS NEXT WEEK!! OCT. 8-12)

I hope you are having a great week!

A Peek at Our Academic Week
Oct. 1st, 2012
HOMEWORK

Word Study: Scholars will begin receiving a weekly word study sheet for homework. It will be broken down into days so it is clear as to what to do Monday through Thursday. The focus this week deals with words beginning with sq/sh/ and th.

Math: Scholars will begin doing two pages of homework a night instead of one. They will have 4 worksheets and each day they are to do one sheet front and back.

Writing: Word study is now in the place of the free write to focus more on vocabulary patterns, word recognition, and other concepts that will help on test, quizzes, MAP, and ISAT.

REMEMBER-Turning in homework late is unacceptable. If any scholar turns in work anytime after it is due, they will not receive credit! Any questions, please contact Ms. Scott.

    IN CLASS

Math: Scholars will address problem solving skills, even and odd, place value and more.

Reading:  Guided reading small groups are continuing to move forward as scholars think about their thinking. We are also undergoing different words for the word sorts to help build their level of vocabulary and comprehension.

(Guided reading is a strategy that helps scholars become good readers. We, the instructors, provide support for small groups of readers as they learn to use various reading strategies such as utilizing context clues, letter and sound relationships, word structure, and so much more).

Writing: Scholars are working on Narratives.

Social Studies:  Scholars will begin learning about history and geography with a specific focus on Ancient Rome.

    Shining scholar!

Aaron is an awesome scholar and does very well during class, especially during activities. Keep up the good work Aaron! Shout out to the entire class as well for attaining another pizza party for doing such a fabulous job; we received another 20 shout outs from the administrative staff for being caught doing the right thing (behaving as exemplar scholars). Keep up the great work scholars of room 203!

    Things to note and remember…
FALL BREAK (There is NO SCHOOL)-Scholars will have homework over the break. Please do  not allow our scholar to wait until the last few days of break to finish the entire packet. The fall break packets are due the day the scholars return! There will be no exceptions unless an emergency occurs in which the parent must contact the teacher. It is apart of their grade so it is important that it is completed and turned in on time :-)

Academic support for MAP that's made fun for all scholars
