Welcome back...I hope you have a great week and let's always keep in mind that this blog is a great way to keep track of what your scholars are doing this week and weeks to come!
A Peek at Our Academic Week
Sept. 17th, 2012
Math: Scholars will address problem solving skills, order of operations, place value, two digit addition/subtraction and so forth.
Reading: This week begins our guided reading small groups.
(Guided reading is a strategy that helps scholars become good readers. We, the instructors, provide support for small groups of readers as they learn to use various reading strategies such as utilizing context clues, letter and sound relationships, word structure, and so much more).
Scholars will continue word sorts. Word Sort patterns for the week include the following: or, ore, oar, and w+or. Again, word sorts are to help students focus on conceptual and phonological features of words and identify recurring patterns.
Writing: Scholars will do Narrative writing pieces.
Social Studies: Scholars will begin learning about history and geography with a specific focus on Ancient Rome.

- School is still in session! LEARN Charter schools remain open during this Chicago Teachers Union strike. This is going on their second week but we are not part of the dispute.

READING/WRITING- www.readwritethink.org which provides fun activities, projects, books, and games to get and keep scholars interested and excited about reading and writing.
MATH- www.math.com / www.coolmath-games.com which provides activities and games to address various concepts and strategies in an interactive and exciting way.
